For world’s top gallerists, artists, curators, collectors and enthusiasts, Miami is the place to be in the first week of December. For the occasion of Miami Art Week, led by the biggest art fair out there that is Art Basel, the city of Miami, but also Miami Beach, become two enormous art venues, offering programming so rich it requires some serious planning. It is a time which puts a crown on an entire year of artistic production, and a time when the cities’ own museums and galleries put on view their very best artwork. Filled with content, parties involving many celebrities, unexpected happenings and pop-up exhibitions, more than twenty events will take place during the Art Week 2015, scattered from South Beach over to Wynwood and Design District. Here, we picked out ten of them you definitely should not miss, if you’re interested in best-quality contemporary art.

Art Basel Miami Beach

Surely the art fair that started it all and a force to be reckoned with, Art Basel Miami Beach comes on stronger and stronger with every edition. For the 14th time in Miami Beach, Art Basel concludes yet another successful round-up of worldwide trading, following the events in Hong Kong and Basel earlier this year. A total of 267 leading international galleries who’ve had the privilege to take part of it will gather to showcase more than 4,000 emerging and established artists from all over the world. Through carefully curated gallery program divided by sectors and a series of talks, film screenings and projects, Art Basel Miami Beach will once again introduce the best of Modern and Contemporary art, creating a true haven for the world’s top collectors.

SCOPE Miami

Another art fair with a long tradition in setting the bar for all the rest, SCOPE returns to Miami Beach to celebrate its 15th anniversary. With an even stronger program this year, the fair’s expanded exhibition space is ready welcome more than 45,000 visitors and more than 120 international exhibitors. SCOPE’s famous Breeder and FEATURED programs will again present the most promising new galleries and highlight those dedicated to the innovations in photography, focusing on the medium’s most talented producers. Also on view, the fourth edition of Juxtapoz Presents, a section that will ”celebrate artwork that bends, blends and transcends genre”, through the works at seventeen creative galleries.

Miami Project

Fifty five of international exhibitors will take part at this year’s Miami Project, located at the remarkable venue of the Deauville Beach Resort. Only in its fourth edition, the fair has already secured a safe spot in the Miami Art Week calendar, alongside its many Satellite projects. These will be divided into three segments: Installations, Performances and Special Projects, accompanied by a series of musical programs, virtual exhibitions at the DiMoDA museum of New Media art, and much more. Miami Project will provide fairgoers with the unique opportunity to acquire work by established painters, sculptors and photographers who have shaped major artistic movements, such as Keith Haring, Robert Rauschenberg, Ed Ruscha, Andy Warhol and many more.

Art on Paper Miami

Taking place alongside Miami Project, Art on Paper art fair will set in motion its first ever Miami edition, after the remarkable success it had in New York earlier this year. This particularly interesting event focuses solely on artworks that employ paper as the backbone medium, thus showcasing the highest quality paper-based art, in form of photographs, sculptures, drawings or paintings. Art on Paper Miami will present eighteen selected galleries for an exhibition of the most creative artistic ways, where paper sheets build up photographs, mixed media works, installations, prints and many other pieces. Returning as the fair’s Artistic Director will be Sasha Wolf, of Sasha Wolf Gallery in New York, joined by James Stround of Boston’s Center Street Studio.

NADA Miami Beach

The only major American art fair to be run by a non-profit organization, NADA Miami Beach will bring their game to the next level with a new venue – The Fontainebleau. Seen as one of the most important platforms in promotion of young galleries, the fair comes back for its 13th edition, which will feature 105 exhibitors in total, 21 of which will have their debut. What’s interesting is that proceeds raised from NADA Miami Beach ticket sales will go towards establishing the NADA International Exhibitor Prize, a new initiative to support first-time exhibitors traveling internationally to the fair in 2016. While the 2015 program is yet to be announced, the exhibitors promise an impressive line-up of artists working in the field of emerging contemporary art.

Spectrum Miami

Live performances, curated projects and late night parties, numerous talks, exhibitions and even a mural painting event – all this will constitute this year’s Spectrum Miami art show, expects to attract more than 26,000 visitors. Located in Miami’s Performing Arts District, the fair invites you to a unique five-day artistic experience, provided by more than 160 galleries, self-promoting artists and publishers, working with contemporary art in a great variety of media. For the 2015 edition, Spectrum Miami chose the theme of [EMERGENCE], comprising of site-specific projects, talks and panel discussions, a selection of dynamic film, video and new media works, as well as a curated selection of emerging and spotlight artists.

X Contemporary Miami

A debutant in Miami, X Contemporary fair will spread across 28,000 square feet of exhibition space in Wynwood district, for a showcase of about thirty international exhibitors. Focusing mainly on emerging and mid-career artists, the event will offer five days of exhibitions and special programming dedicated to art collections, talks regarding social topics and artist themselves, and more. Among the shows, we highlight the Keith Haring : Pop Shop exhibition hosted by Castle Fitzjohns Gallery, a print release by British muralist Hush and a presentation of rarely seen works by and about Jean Michel Basquiat at Willoughby Art Advisory, and the F430 Ferrari Art Car project at Dorian Grey Gallery, featuring the design of artist John Crash Matos.

Satellite Miami

If you don’t feel like being in only one place during Satellite Miami art show, there’s no problem – you can be in five. In Miami for the first time, and already all over the place! Fifty two art spaces, mainly from the US, will be divided into these locations: Ocean Terrace Hotel, Surf Med Pharmacy, The Parking Garage, the Deauville Resort and North Beach Bandshell, each offering a program curated by renowned curators, which includes exhibitions, performances, special projects and engaging endeavours. A special mention is given to artist-run spaces and organizations, as well as DiMoDA, The Digital Museum of Digital Art and its virtual exhibition, presenting the work of five international New Media artists. UNTITLED Miami Beach

Located within a beautiful pavilion on the beach, the UNTITLED Miami Beach art fair leaned on its experienced curatorial team to provide an extensive exhibition program, now in its fourth year. Over 120 galleries, artist-run spaces and non-profit institutions and organizations will join in this year. In addition to booth presentations, three special projects will also take place inside the venue, and many more will be featured outside, including a number of selected performances and site-specific installations and sculptures. We also highlight the return of free limited edition original art posters, created by today’s most influential artists such as Marina Abramovic, John Baldessari, Vanessa Beecroft, Parket Ito, Sam Lewitt and many others.

CONTEXT Art Miami

Alongside Art Miami, CONTEXT Art Miami will prove to be one of the biggest exhibitions and most serious marketplaces for collectors during Miami Art Week. Among the exhibitions, there will be the one dedicated to Berlin and its influential scene, through the presentations of five local contemporary art galleries and a panel held by curators and critics. A special attention will also be given to sound artists, in an exhibition of 12 listening stations, each dedicated to the work of one artist, as well as a film series entitled We Make Passage and the Galleries Association of Korea, which will bring a significant number of their galleries and artists. Not to be missed: talks dedicated to the trends among next generation of collectors, hosted by Chubb Personal Insurance.
