Allan Kaprow was an American artist born in 1927, widely regarded as one of the early pioneers of contemporary performance art. He is best known for involvement in establishing the terms “Environment” and “Happening” in the 1950s and 1960s. The “Happenings” first started as tightly scripted events, in which the audience and performers followed cues to experience the art.

Allan Kaprow died in 2006.
