Bringing Together Regional and Foreign Creatives

Contemporary Istanbul is known for its unique position, both geographically and culturally speaking. The gathering traditionally brings together various galleries and collectors from the entire surrounding region, as well as those coming from far-flung places such as the United States and South Korea. Especially during the recent decades, Turkish contemporary pieces started to flourish and modern imagery is often considered a toolbox for mental hygiene, according to Marc-Olivier Wahler, CI’s artistic advisor.

The map of exhibition and the place changed over years - there are many exciting news.

Plugin

Plugin Section is the part of Istanbul Contemporary dedicated to new media art, such as multimedia and digital creations. It is open to various experimental galleries, museums, design and architectural studios known as the masterminds of the digital field. Plugin revolves around the idea of Networked Space as a mode of artistic production which enhances the contact between our imagination and consciousness. The subject of networks is approached in an epistemological way, through the investigation of the structures of our digitalized reality.

Plugin is an additional section in this year's exhibition scene.

Collectors’ Stories

Collectors’ Stories is the new section of the event and it consists of artworks carefully selected by 60 collectors from their private collections. It provides a comprehensive insight into the artistic taste of modern collectors and it helps aspiring creatives and enthusiasts understand better the current market. Collector’s Stories will bring together the most diverse attitudes, preferences and collections, with the aim of supporting and cultivating a curatorial spirit. This important show will be followed by a book published by CI Publications. This book is featuring helpful photographs and information about the collections and works and it will be the first of its kind to document modern artworks in private collections in Turkey.

Collectors' stories is a new section this year, which aims at clarifying the art scene.
