We can say that the season of the art fairs has “officially” begun. We have already written previews for a number of art fairs taking place in September. The season is opening with a number of smaller art fairs. Still, these “smaller” art fairs are quite interesting, with dozens of galleries and artists participating. Collectors and art enthusiast will certainly find some extraordinary works and pieces. So, even if these art fairs are not as big as Art Miami or Art Basel, they have a lot to offer – don’t miss them!
Two great art fairs are opening next week in Latin America – Ch.ACO art fair in Chile and ZsONA MACO FOTO in Mexico. On the other hand, in Europe, Cologne will be hosting Art.Fair Cologne, while the Austria’s capital will host the first ever international art fair, Vienna Contemporary. Still, it is not everything about art fairs next week. Several great exhibitions are opening, including the Raphaël Borer and Lukas Oberer show at Artstübli in Basel.

…Even today, the majority of the works by Borer and Oberer may be found in the public space. Still, they are also very active in studio practice. Their collaboration is characterized by a mixture of individual approach by each artist – they adopt optical techniques to their own, for example the lenticular screen. Hereby the parallelism of two exceptionally individual works creates a new, overall composition. To escape the often restrictive format of the canvas, the collective often also uses façade painting. Hereby colors and forms are given the necessary space and stand in a dialogue with space and time. The working style is characterized by a continuous give and take. Through further development and alienation, imitation and opposites, the process is hereby seen as an opportunity to create something new, epitomized in the equation 1+1=3…

…More than 100 exhibiting galleries, including 40 international ones, will be participating at the art fair in Cologne. Apart from the spaces coming from other cities in Germany, like Munich and Berlin, there will also be guests from the Netherlands, Spain, Belgium, China, Taiwan, France, Austria the UK, the US, Denmark, Italy and more, each bringing a little bit of their best. Among the city galleries, the highlights will be Die Kunstagentin gallery, with artists Julia Benz and Louise Gibson, and 30works gallery, who are bringing AVone, Francois Coorens and Van Ray, among others. The fair will also present the rich German contemporary scene. The works of art legends like Gerhard Richter, Sigmar Polke and Georg Baselitz can be found at Galerie Terminus and Kunsthandlung Osper, for example, while Radermakers Gallery and DavisKlemmGallery will showcase international artists like Hendrik Kerstens andJulian Opie. Galerie Rainer Klimczak and Galerie Hafenrichter will host the works of many Pop artists like Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, Allen Jones and Mel Ramos, among many others…

Mexico City, Mexico
…ZsONA MACO FOTO is an international fair focused on antique, modern and contemporary photography and video. This is the first edition of the ZsONA MACO FOTO. The art fair is launched by Zélika García (who also established ZsONA MOCA). It is designed as a platform for collectors and art lovers of photography and video art. Participation is reserved for: galleries exhibiting, exclusively or partially, photography and/or video art within its programs; private photography and/or video dealers; editors of photography/video magazines and/or books and art magazines. More than twenty galleries will participate at the first edition of the ZsONA MACO FOTO. Some of them are: Art Lexing, Miami; Artspace, Mexico City; La Caja Negra, Madrid; Patricia Conde, Mexico City; De Soto, Los Angeles; Document Art, Buenos Aires; Espacio Mínimo, Madrid; Espai Tactel, Valencia; GAM, Mexico City; Gil Zárate, Mexico City and others….

…Twenty five out of 99 participating galleries will visit Vienna for the first time, including spaces from Denmark, the UK, Greece, Russia and Azerbaijan. One of the spaces representing the host city will be Galerie Ernst Hilger, with legends like Faile and Shepard Fairey, while Galerie Thaddeus Ropac and their Salzburg space will be another gallery from Austria included in the fair’s highlights. Among the names, there are Marina Abramovic and Chris Burden with Galerie Krinzinger, Gerhard Richter with Galerie Michael Schultz, Tobias Zielony with KOW Gallery, Clemens Wolf with Galerie Silvia Steinek, Julian Charrière with DITTRICH & SCHLECHTRIEM, Drago Persic with Galerie Nicola von Senger and many more. The fair will also introduce Reflections , a new gallery presentation format underlining the curatorial aspect of works on view, that will have 37 participants. At ZONE1, 12 spaces will present solo exhibitions of 11 young international artists, with an additional 21 exhibiting as part of OWG (One Work Gallery)….

…The majority of participating galleries are coming from Chile. However, there are many of them coming from Europe and United States as well. Among 30 participating galleries are also those belonging to the Association of Contemporary Art Galleries (AGAC). This selection will be devoted to pieces created by masters of modern Chilean art, such as Juan Pablo Langlois, Paz Errázuriz and Alfredo Jaar.
