Italy’s most recognized art fair on an international level returns for its 23rd edition. Artissima 2016 will take place this November in the Northern city of Turin, bringing a selection of esteemed national and international galleries and a comprehensive program featuring events, performances, exhibitions and talks. Always innovative and on the lookout for fresh talents, the event focuses on two guiding forces, one being dedicated to the artistic and curatorial explorations and the other examining the concept of performance, especially through their Per4M section, returning for the 3rd time this year. Almost 200 galleries from 35 countries will convey at the Lingotto venue, offering their very best work to more than 5,000 invited collectors. Under the guidance of Sarah Cosulich for the fifth consecutive year, Artissima will introduce a few novelties while keeping the highest of quality in artistic production we’ve gotten so used to.

Artissima is…

Participating Galleries

Artissima 2016 will once again offer as many as seven sections dedicated to exhibitors, tackling both Modern and Contemporary art topics through artwork. This year will see the introduction of a sector entitled Dialogue, which will feature curated projects of one or more artists in dialogue. Among the New Entries, we have galleries from Tehran, Shanghai, Rio de Janeiro, Bogota and Saint Ouen, among others, while as part of Present Future, the galleries will showcase the works of 20 young artists. At Back to the Future, a section dedicated to specific periods in the history of art, this time we can find 19 museum-quality solo exhibitions of pieces from the 1970s and 80s, or more precisely between the years 1970 and 1989. The aforementioned Per4M, a rare section among art fairs dedicated to performance arts, will offer performances by nine international individuals. When it comes to established sectors, we have the Main Section, with the most renowned galleries from all around the world, including Art Bärtschi & Cie, Tomio Koyama and Richard Saltoun.

Program Highlights

The extensive program of Artissima aims to further enrich the cultural and artistic conversation by immersing it into the atmosphere of an event like this. One of the latest talk programs will answer the question “What is Experimental?”, with the help of curator Stefano Collicelli Cagol. Many non-profit and independent art spaces and more than 50 curators will take part in discussion panels and debates, including the now famous Walkie Talkies and other meetings. Apart from the brilliant Per4M section, this year curated by the Dutch collective If I Can’t Dance I Don’t Want To Be A Part Of Your Revolution, another inevitable part of the exhibition program is the famous In Mostra, curated by Simone Menegoi. The first project to give space to the museums and cultural institutions from the Piedmont region and below, will once again show their collections, this time focusing on the human body, the poses and gesture. Finally, a total of six awards will be given to the most talented artists and innovative galleries, including the main Illy Present Future prize.
