Art somehow explains a lot that's happening in the world right now. Feel free to contact me at

A Los Angeles based artist, Alexandra Grant is widely known for exploring the use of language and text in her work. She primarily elaborates ideas through mediums of painting and drawing but also uses sculpture, film and photography – anything suitable for exploring themes such as social responsibility, identity and dis/location. This unique approach simply calls for some sort of collaboration with other creative individuals. She has worked with philosopher Hélène Cixous, author Michael Joyce and actor Keanu Reeves, to name a few. As a creator of the grantLOVE project, Grant has helped raise funds for numerous arts-based non-profits including 18th Street Arts Center, Project Angel Food, Heart of Los Angeles (HOLA), LAXART, and Art of Elysium.

Grant, the daughter of an American diplomat and a Scottish geologist, grew up moving from Mexico to France to Spain to the US. She became a keen observer of translation (what is gained and what is lost) as people, books, and ultimately ideas, move from country to country, culture to culture, context to context. During studies (BA in History and Studio Art from Swarthmore College, Swarthmore, PA and MFA in Drawing and Painting from California College of Arts and Crafts, San Francisco, CA), she became interested in exploring the liminal moment when a word becomes an image of a word. Having previously understood that everyone is a storyteller, it was only natural for Grant to begin researching the visual qualities of literary language.
