Inoue Yuichi was an avant-garde Japanese artist born in 1916, and an iconic figure of post-war Japanese modern calligraphy. He contributed to the liberation of calligraphy from the mire of a feudalistic community of calligraphy. Apart from traditional technique, Inoue Yuichi also applied action painting techniques like beating or splashing strips of paper with ink-laden brushes.
