Maiko Kasai is a Japanese artist born in 1983, in Aichi. Kasai’s delightful canvases, depicted with flowing brushstrokes and an overflowing sense of dynamism, feature bold expanses of blank space that have been left intact. These paintings weave together landscapes and information from the real world with my own personal stories and narratives, says the young artist. The young girls that appear in these works carry a variety of internal conflicts with them – the plight of someone living in contemporary society who is forced to confront various social problems.
