Alias of Jasmina Sevic, a researcher and author for Widewalls. She graduated from the Faculty of Political Science (Department for Journalism) in Belgrade in 2013.

Ori Gersht is an Israeli photographer and video artist born in 1967 in Tel Aviv. Gersht studied Photography, Film and Video at the University of Westminister before graduating with an M.A. in Photography from the Royal College of Art, London, in 1995.

In his work, Gersht engages the themes of life, death, violence, and beauty. His photographs and films transcribe images of sites of historical significance from the Spanish Civil War to the bombing of Hiroshima. The practice of Ori Gersht bridges together a history of trauma, be it through his Afterwar series, depicting the scars and weals left on the sunlit and war torn buildings in Sarajevo, White Noise, depicting his train journey to Auschwitz, or the Clearing, filmed in a forest saturated with memory, situated in the Ukraine. Engaging in that difficult arena of not only pushing the photographic camera to the limits of what it can record, but also working in innovative ways with film and video, Gersht’s highly researched aesthetic has an instinctive and innovative approach to the materiality of his medium.

Flowers and landscapes are often at the heart of his work. The large-scale photographs entitled Blow Up depict elaborate floral arrangements, based upon a 19th Century still-life painting by Henri Fantin-Latour, captured in the moment of exploding. Gersht has experimented with how the camera and contemporary technology can redefine the way we perceive the world. Using high-speed digital equipment he was able to capture, in crisp resolution, every detail of the exploding flowers.

He has participated in numerous exhibitions worldwide, including New York, London, Paris, Edinburgh, Tel Aviv, San Francisco, Madrid, and Basel, among others. Gersht is represented by Angles Gallery in Los Angeles, CRG Gallery in New York, Mummery + Schnelle Gallery in London, and Noga Gallery in Tel Aviv.

He is a professor of photography at the University for the Creative Arts in Rochester, Kent, England. Gersht moved to London in 1988 and lives there today with his wife, a painter, and their two children.
