Pascal Schwendener is a Contemporary Swiss painter, born in 1988 in Locarno, Switzerland. He became the youngest elected student at the Düsseldorf Art Academy as he was 18. Schwendener now belongs to the class of Prof. Peter Doig, famous Scottish painter.
His huge canvases, that reveal his background as a graffiti artist, very soon have attracted public attention. He mostly paints convoluted forms of special futuristic appearance looking like biocomputers or achieving the impression of phantastic visions. These are the leitmotifs of his work. Enchanted, deserted city landscapes consisting of fragile skyscrapers and endless pipes looking like shreds of a dream, credible constructions with perfect proportions show incredible sceneries.
The closer the viewer gets to Pascal’s paintings the more abstract and complex they seem. The surface conceals many layers containing plenty of detail. Like the multicolour rocklayers of a mountain, the levels of his works are superimposed. Out of that he bales his very own special world. Thriftily applied accents of bright blue and orange colours give life to his paintings and guide the viewer through the created surrealistic universe.
The young artist is keen on classical painting as well as on graffiti and comic art. He tries to use many different techniques and media by working on his amazing canvases. Pascal Schwendener belongs to the most popular Shooting stars among the Academy students.
He lives and works in Düsseldorf, Germany.
