Paul Signac was a renowned French Neo-Impressionist painter, best known for his development of Pointillist style, together with Georges Seurat.

Born as Paul Victor Jules Signac in Paris in 1863, the painter met Claude Monet and Georges Seurat in his early twenties, in 1884. Struck by the systematic working methods of Seurat and by his theory of colors, Paul Signac abandoned the small brushstrokes of Impressionism in order to experiment with juxtaposed small dots of pure color, intended to combine and blend not on the canvas but in the viewer’s eye. With this, the Pointillism was born.
