Rafael Batista is an American artist, known for his sculptures inspired by pop culture, for which he uses clay, resin and other unexpected materials. Unlike many artists who got special artistic training, Batista is a self-taught who studied philosophy and psychology. He is known for creating his sculptures using everyday materials, such as clay, toys, resin, sandpaper, books, and many others (he cites all of them as his favorites), thus changing the way his audience perceives them. Rafael’s artworks are his way of expressing the wonder about human inhibitions and our inability to overcome them. His sculptures explore artist’s alternate reality, bringing thirst and humor to his audience. Batista collaborated with Australian artist Maggs, bringing his famous smiley face balloon to the 3D world.
Rafael Batista is represented by Galerie C.O.A. He currently lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
