Victor Charreton grew up in a wealthy family. The artist soon manifested a taste for poetry and painting. His law studies lead him to the profession of attorney at the Court of Appeal of Lyon. In 1893, he married the daughter of an entrepreneur from Puy-de-Dôme. Victor Charreton began his career at the Salon of the Lyons Society of Fine Arts in 1894. In 1902, he sold his study to devote himself entirely to painting.
