Focusing
on the design of systems and the creation of tools and processes for producing
objects, Anton Alvarez is a Swedish-Chilean contemporary artist known for his
machine-produced sculptures. This extruder, invented by the artist himself,
emits an entire clay sculpture in one go. However, the process is not fully
automated and requires the intervention of an operator responsible for
regulating pressure, speed, size, impact, intention, and judging the
aesthetics. His works challenge the viewer’s perception of weight and gravity,
appearing as if they are both of this world and utterly separate from it.
Currently based in Stockholm, Anton Alvarez studied at the Royal College of Art
in London, where he graduated in 2012.
