September 24, 2013

Atsuko Tanaka was born in Osaka in 1932, and died of pneumonia in 2005. She was a pioneering Japanese avant-garde artist.

Tanaka’s works, paintings, sculptures, performances and installations, are abstract pieces that rejected conventional ideas of how artworks should appear or “perform.”

Her work is featured in various internationally important public collections, including that of New York's Museum of Modern Art (MOMA).
