Filip Švehla is a Czech contemporary artist widely known for his abstract paintings, though he occasionally creates installations. He was educated at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, where he learned under prof. Jiří Sopko, prof. Michael Rittstein, and MgA. Robert Šalanda, to name a few. In 2015, Švehla went to Utrecht, Netherlands, spending there a year. His work became fully defined after completing his studies and leaving for Valencia, Spain. Captivated by the city’s architecture, various neighborhoods, facades, and imperfect structures, he crystalized his style by applying layers of many colors onto the canvas creating geometrical. These works are, to a certain extent, minimalist paintings. The artist further developed the complexity of the used colors through his travels to India, taking inspiration from local music traditions. Filip Švehla lives and works in Prague.
