Born
and raised in New York City, GIZ is an American graffiti artist who began his
career in 1988, when he was just ten years old. He focused on
"bombing" clean NYC subway trains before making a transition towards
gallery art in 1998. Using his woodworking background, he began producing works
on pieces of wood by cutting them into his letters' shapes. GIZ's style evolved
into a playful extension of Pop art around 2013, where his unique writing style
morphed iconic cartoon characters into the letters of his name in various
innovative ways. His work still evolves, and the artist remains active on all
fronts – murals, gallery shows, and of course, continuing to "bomb"
the streets.
