Marie Cécile Thijs is a Dutch
photographer who creates portraits of people, animals, flowers, and food, with
stillness being the key part. Her work is reminiscent of old masters in
painting, while at the same time, her interpretation is purely contemporary.
She has a habit of playing with her subjects, either freezing them in time and
space or bringing them to life. Her objects become characters, detached from
their original context, assuming a new identity. Thijs creates intriguing works
where motion, tranquility, and humor meet. She primarily works in series -
White Collar, Food Portraits, Amazones, Flowers, Birds & Vases, Horses,
Majestic and Human Angels. These series continue to expand and are never
officially concluded as new works are created.
