Ryan Kvande is an American contemporary artist widely known for his unique wooden kinetic sculptures inspired by the Moiré pattern. All of his work is conceptualized and handmade by himself. First, he draws the sculptures onto wood, cutting them out with a scroll saw. Since each part must be meticulously measured, Kvande uses a laser-accurate drill press to achieve the level of precision needed, proceeding to sand the entire piece by hand. Even though the finished pieces appear magnificent just placed on a wall, they become fascinating when set in motion with a simple spin of the hand.
