Sophie-Alexia Joly de Lotbinière is French abstract artist whose work deals with the emphasis on its own materiality by breaking from deliberate processes, and seeking the subject through the physical act of painting itself. Her abstract works on aluminum play on the conflict between conscious and unconscious development of form.
Sophie-Alexia took her craft seriously from the beginning and spent time studying painting in Florence Italy at Charles H. Cecil Studios and then graduated from The School of the Museum of Fine Arts and Tufts University and went on to get her masters at the Sotheby’s Institute in London.
Needless to say she knows art and it shows. You would fell in love with her compositions. Sophie’s understanding of color and movement spills across her canvas, and each piece seems to illustrate a palette of different emotions. The work speaks for itself, and one doesn’t need to know the artists’ education to know you are in the presence of something special.
Sophie Alexia lives and works in New York.
