Julian Schnabel was a regular at The Factory and was so close to Warhol and the others that, he says, "I used to go up to read to Fred Hughes, Andy Warhol's business partner, who had multiple sclerosis. I had been thinking that I might make a movie about Fred." This movie became The Diving Bell and the Butterfly. Schnabel has directed many movies that revolve around his time at The Factory, such as Basquiat and Lou Reed's Berlin. Additionally, he has made quite a name for himself as an artist, now showing at The Met, MoMA, The Whitney, Reina Sofia in Madrid, the Tate Modern in London, and the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris.; - Pat Hackett, editor of The Warhol Diaries
