Keith Haring opened his Pop Shop in the Soho district of New York in 1986, selling t-shirts and novelty items at affordable prices. 'I wanted to continue this same sort of communication as with the subway drawings. ... I wanted it to be a place where, yes, not only collectors could come, but also kids from the Bronx,' Haring said.
Keith Haring was an American artist and activist known for his iconic paintings and street art. He began to attract widespread attention with his spontaneous subway drawings after moving to New York City in the late 1970s. His later work often addressed political and social issues, especially homosexuality and AIDS.
