ca. 1976; The photograph depicts Lou Reed holding Andy Warhol's two dachshunds, Archie and Amos.
Lou Reed was the lead guitarist, singer, and songwriter of New York rock band The Velvet Underground. In 1965, Andy Warhol became the manager of The Velvet Underground. They were also the house band at The Factory and during the Exploding Plastic Inevitable events. Warhol is responsible for suggesting the collaboration between The Velvet Underground and the German chanteuse Nico. Warhol designed the now famous cover for The Velvet Underground and Nico, the band's debut album, consisting of a banana with a sticker that reads, "Peel slowly and see."
