In an exhibition catalogue essay, Australian art critic Ashley Crawford wrote, “White has brought together a body of work that reveals a passion for colour, form and movement… The results are not unlike slices of the world uncovered by an archaeologist. He seems to absorb and then exhale the weight of the earth…”
This work formed a series of small works of 30 x 30cm. These were started during the period of the Paris residency of the artist in 2009 and finished early 2016.
The scale of the Parisian studio commanded somewhat the scale of the painting.
These works were buried away for a few years and afterwards reworked with scrapers and angle grinders carefully cutting through the delicate layers of encrusted oil paint to reveal the past activity.
