For this painting, Stone was interested in having the lines be very close and not quite touching – or touching only by the chance of the paint bleed from under the tape – not by her intent.
The painted lines touching each other happened primarily out of her control. The title and the painting itself are a play and reflection on impulse control and boundaries. Like children being told “no touching” while in a shop or museum, or men who touch women inappropriately who also need to be told – no touching!
