Hanami is a quadriptych painting by Paris-based Taiwanese artist CHEN Yiching. Its title refers to the Japanese tradition of "flower viewing", especially cherry blossoms like the one pictured here. Specialist of "nihon-ga", traditional Japanese painting, the artist uses this delicate aesthetic language to express her emotional and sensitive experience of nature. This large-scale painting (60 1/4 x 141 3/4 cm) is composed of four wooden panels that are painted with mineral pigments prepared by the artist herself: the difference in size of the grains gives her paintings their radiance and vast array of shades. Series: This painting is part of a series called Cherry Trees.
