Chuck Close received his MFA from Yale University. In 1969 his work was included in the Whitney Biennial, and was first exhibited at MoMA in 1973. In 1988, Close was paralyzed following a rare spinal artery collapse; he continues to paint using a brush-holding device strapped to his wrist and forearm.
