Paris: Les Editions d'Art Devambez, 1927. The masterful, haunting drawing depicts an ecstatic black man conducting music (or playing the drums) in the jungle, surrounded by monkeys and banana trees. Henri Creuzevault (1905-1971) was one of the leading French binders of the 20th century. Top edge gilt, other edges uncut. Original wraps and backstrip bound in. A little very faint internal spotting, else fine and bright. (Note: the spotting, in this case, is due to the oxidation of iron particles in the paper. This kind of spotting does not damage the paper.)
