A poster commissioned by the subject, Aristide Bruant, a successful singer, songwriter and cabaret owner. When he began to perform at more upscale venues, he enlisted Lautrec to market his rough street persona in a matter that would appeal more to his bourgeois audience. Lautrec utilized Bruant's signature style to cut a sparse and iconic image.
