This work on paper draws on the artist long engagement with the culture and traditions of Japan. Inspired by the notion of Wabi-Sabi these small intimate drawings are created by treating the front and back surface of square sheets of Japanese Gampi paper with Gesso and paint, folding the paper to create a clearly defined form in the process of mounting the modulated Gampi on a rag paper support. The works have an immense, almost architectural presence, which contradicts their delicate size.
