The drawing series Toute Pensee emet un Coup de Des (in reference to Stephane Mallarme's homonymous poem), reinterpret classic shipwrecks paintings.; Mendez Blake realized that a typical strategy used by classic painters to enhance dramatic effects in sea landscape paintings was to lean the masts. These drawings go through an editing process, in which the original paintings are cropped and rotated 35 to 40 degrees to achieve the mast verticality, just to make the masts look as if the ships were avoiding fatal destiny through a simple act of levitation.; The painters on which these drawings are based, such as William Bradford, William Turner, Hendrik Kobell, Richard Bernard Godfrey, Claude Joseph Vernet, etc., come from different backgrounds and nationalities.
