Davila's recent paintings consider the canvas as a transformation ground, in which the relations between images, objects and words can be loosen up and subsequently rearranged. A series of geometric elements taken from modernist tradition overlap and accumulate on the surface of the canvas; the relation between contrasting colors and shapes produces new forms that inhabit the pictorial dimension. Through these works Davila references artistic movements such as Brazilian concrete poetry reframing its legacy and readapting its possibilities in the contemporary context. The artist assumes a modular approach in which every element must contribute in order to generate a whole picture; formal vagueness progressively evolves into visual determination, geometric shapes arise and break apart from the background canvas displaying isolated moments of pictorial construction.
