The Magdalene asylums, also known as the Magdalene Laundries, were institutions set up to house "fallen women." The women - young girls usually - confined in these institutions were in essence prisoners and were forced to do "laundry" and other menial tasks. This piece - with a doll crucified to a portable ironing board - pays homage to those poor women and speaks out against the atrocity of these asylums.
