I converted an old shoe shine box into a simulated movie theater where a Black audience is looking at a newsreel of Jesse Owens at the 1936 Olympics. Owens was the African-American athlete who won four gold medals at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin, much to the consternation of Hitler and the Nazis who were hoping the games would showcase their belief in the superiority of the Aryan race. Unfortunately, Owens' international fame did not change attitudes towards Blacks in his own country during the Jim Crow era. The Race goes on.
