In 2014, Peter Frank wrote the following about Melissa Meyer in the Huffington Post:
“Each painting or watercolor challenges Meyer to compose something that works a little differently while revealing the DNA they all share. That DNA is itself mixed, two parts abstract expressionism to one part prewar geometricism and one-and-a-half part Zen calligraphy…Every line has a flourish to it, but Meyer turns that energy back in on itself, so that the line conserves rather than spends its energy…Indeed, there is something quite overtly musical about these, not least in the way they work top to bottom and back and forth equally and in concert.”
Melissa Meyer has created a diverse oeuvre that includes oil paintings, drawings, watercolors, prints and large-scale public commissions.
Her work is strongly influenced by color and line. Her brushstrokes and patterns possess a glyph-like quality, conveying a vibrant and deeply personal aesthetic language.
Meyer is skilled in a range of different printing techniques, including lithography, etching, monotype, silkscreen, and spit bite aquatint.
This etching refers to a Steamboat Springs, Colorado street. It has been printed by Sue Oehme for Riverhouse Editions in an edition of 30.
