Suite of seven etchings, in a linen folder with a title page and a colophon page. Published in 2016 by Ludion. L'Univers des Formes is a series of seven prints done in a combination of etching and aquatint. The artist Philip Aguirre y Otegui uses the etchings to explore the distinctive formal vocabulary of his wider oeuvre, with direct references to his sculpture and to large-scale architectural pieces like Theatre Source in Cameroon. The series opens with abstract, almost surrealist forms. Bit by bit, though, we recognise elements from the real world, with the final etching actually containing several human figures. The influence of Giorgio de Chirico and Rene Magritte is palpable.
