This poster by Amnesty International USA was created for the Year of the Prisoners of Conscience campaign (1977). 15 world renowned artists that year also created a poster image to commemorate that year. This poster is signed and numbered out of 100. Roland Topor (1938 n 1997) was a French illustrator, painter, writer and filmmaker. Roland Torpor's most famous art often seems to relate to masochistic, violent imagery. His art in most fields tend towards the side of the gruesome mixed with the mundane. Even here the man's expression is almost bored while his lower jaw is caved in by a hammer. His style in literature, cinema, painting and acting slides toward the surreal macabre, lending itself toward a distasteful laugh or two.
