Rendered with thick outlines and partially colored with red and yellow, this woodcut print of two apples by Roy Lichtenstein reflects the artist's Pop Art style with his comic-inspired lines and simplicity. Lichtenstein himself called this series 'quiet and elegant'. For this series, Petersburg Press approached Lichtenstein about creating this series using a traditional Japanese style of producing woodcuts. Using watercolor-based inks, a thin layer of paint is painted onto the woodblock and then pressed by hand, for more intense colors the printer would do multiple prints of the same color. For this particular print, they used four colors in four separate runs. Seven Apple Woodcuts Series
