What struck me is the paradox of the two subjects in this painting. On one hand, the old woman in the midst of dilapidated structures around her tells us about the end of a journey. On the other hand, Ganesha – the benevolent Lord of beginnings, in stark contrast represents the starting point. I see this as a conundrum of life – the beginning and the end co-exist together, intertwined with hope of new beginning and knowing that this too shall end one day.
