FERA Pop-up Exhibition
The FERA pop-up exhibition by the Brazilian duo of illustrators Bicicleta Sem Freio, comprised of Douglas de Castro and Renato Perreira, arrives in London on the back of visits to several international cities by the duo where they have been creating large scale public works, including Berlin, London, Miami, Las Vegas and Los Angeles, where they painted the largest building ever in the downtown area. Now they are ready to brighten up London with their first ever UK solo show,FERA, which translates from Portuguese to mean wild or savage and is a perfect description for the Brazilian duo and their art, design and rock ‘n’ roll flavoured artworks. Take a look at a couple of murals created by Bicicleta Sem Freio in Street Update #31 and 10 Artists That paint Women.
Bicicleta Sem Freio at RexRomae
The stunning works being presented by the Brazilian duo of illustrators Bicicleta Sem Freio, which translates as Bicycle Without Brakes, in the FERA pop-up exhibition showcases the unique style the duo have crafted for themselves, that comes from a love of having fun, drawing girls and dedication to rock ‘n’ roll in the form of concert posters that their work sometimes resembles, the vibrant psychedelic kind of course! The FERA pop-up exhibition sees Bicicleta Sem Freio taking their finely crafted designs into the world of fine art with ironic pop iconography, dream girls swathed in ethnic fabrics and adorned with 80’s jewellery with hipster looking panthers, wizards and hidden exotic birds adding to the psychedelic effect. You may also enjoy the similar imagery to be found in The Ballasted Frequencies at Maxwell Colette and the work of Takashi Murakami in Murakami at Palazzo Reale Milano.
Bicicleta Sem Freio
The early days of Bicicleta Sem Freio saw the Brazilian duo creating posters for rock concerts and cultural events, influenced by artists such as Edward Mucha and James Jean, paying attention to colours, shapes, curves and nearly always with a hint of psychedelic imagery and often laced with their own unique humour. What is evident in the art works being presented in the FERA pop-up exhibition is the fine attention the duo dedicate to line, colour and pattern that combine with impressive images to create eye-catching and vibrant illustrated designs. The first ever UK show for the Brazilian duo, at RexRomae, promises to be a perfect introduction to the world of art, design and rock ‘n’ roll that exits in the creative minds of Bicicleta Sem Freio. You may also enjoy the work in Anno Domini: Taco De Ojo Group Show, the work of Mamafaka and also Mike Parillo in Just the Tip.
The FERA pop-up exhibition by Bicicleta Sem Freio, presented by JustKids and hosted by RexRomae opens on 5th March, 2015 and runs through until 8th March, 2015.
