Inspired By the Book in New York City

By the Book group exhibition goes back to the period of Dadaism with La surréalisme en 1947, the slipcase and book created by Marcel Duchamp. Also known as Prière de toucher famous art catalog that playfully invites the audience to Please touch had quite literary abolished the distance between artworks and viewers and basically forced the visitors of the 1947 surrealist show to actively engage with works of art. Julião Sarmento the Portuguese artist that often deals with the topics of books, language and writing combines the cover of Paul Auster’s novel and the allure of female figure to create the painting equivalent to the written narrative. Beautiful XVI century library in Florence seen through the eyes of contemporary photographer Candida Hofer will also be displayed at By the Book exhibition at Sean Kelly gallery in New York.
