LA Art Show will, once again, and for the 20th time in a row, be the home for inspiring artists and exciting gallery spaces. From the gathering which had featured a number of 14 galleries two decades ago, the show has grown into a renowned platform of celebration and promotion of fine art, bringing together a number of 120 galleries from 22 countries from all over the world. The 2015 edition of the LA Art Show will be devoted to the presentation of art from the cultural spaces of China, Korea and Latin America, to name only a few. In addition, one of the most exciting aspects will surely be reflected in the exciting “New Contemporary oasis” of the show – Littletopia.

Damien Hirst’s Limited Edition Cathedral Collection Jewelry

One of the more exciting events that will be in focus during the LA Art Show this year comes from the creative mind of world renowned artist Damien Hirst. His Cathedral Collection is another exploration of the 21st century’s golden idols, objects which we rely on and, as Hirst would put it, objects of our prayers – pills. The artist has once again tapped into the powerful potential of medicinal symbology and the new pieces follow Hirst’s previous jewelry collections of similar aesthetics (for a look at similar creative expression, be sure to check out Damien Hirst –Schizophrenogenesis). This collection consists of two pieces – a Pill Ring and Pill Rosary, available to be customized for size, as well as a choice between precious metal or stone. Every piece is to be stamped and numbered and will be coming in a specially created pill vial within and exclusively made red HIRST X HOORSENBUHS box. The pieces will be retailing from $25,000 up to $60,000.

Latin American Art

In the recent period, we have been talking about the great potential which is coming form the cultural space of South America (be sure to check out our selection of 10 South American Urban Artists) as well as the rising presence of Latin American art within the market and the spaces of cultural institutions (read more in Emergence of Latin American Art). In the South Hall of the Los Angeles Convention Center, the LA Art Show 2015 will feature the Latin American art program, including the investigations of such topics as exile, migration, presence of Latin American culture in the United States, all of this through the featuring of inspiring artists, as well as art professionals and art collectors. Lectures, exhibitions and showcasing will include the cultural spaces of Venezuela, Mexico, Columbia, the Dominican Republic, and Cuba (be sure to check out our feature Is Cuban Art the Next Big Thing?).

Contemporary Korean Art

Korea is decidedly showing that it represents one of the fastest growing and most inspiring cultural and art spaces in Asia, but also the rest of the world (be sure to check out our selection of 10 Asian Artists as well as 10 Galleries in Asia). LA Art Show 2015 is going to be a place of the largest grouping of Korean Galleries outside of Asia. Namely, the South Hall of the Los Angeles Convention Center will welcome the thought-provoking program representing the particular aesthetics of contemporary Korean art and artists. The core of the program is reflected in the featuring of two curated exhibits – one, a presentation of Tansaekhwa, one of the most influential Korean art movements of the last century, echoing the power of monochrome painting and, the other, a presentation of an installation by the winner of the 2014 KAFA Award, Korean-American artist Olga Lah.

Contemporary Chinese Art

Whether we are talking about the art market or the creative potentials of artists, China has become one of the most exciting cultural spaces when it comes to contemporary art. This realty is completely recognized by the LA Art Show 2015 organizers, as the South Hall of the Los Angeles Convention Center will represent a meeting point for all those art professionals and art lovers who are in need of seeing the achievements of Chinese artists (be sure to check out our selection of 10 Chinese Artists). Supported by Bureau for External Cultural Relations, Ministry of Culture, People’s Republic of China, and Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture, Radio, Film and TV, a special exhibition of Chinese contemporary art will feature the showcasing of the development of art in China in the past 30 decades and the various aspects and dimensions of its transformations, both within its cultural space as well as its interaction with the Western societies. Read more about Chinese art market and artistic expression in Chinese Collectors Go West! and Contemporary Chinese Photography.

The LA Art Show begins on January 14th and it will last until January 18th 2015, at LA Convention center. Be sure to browse through the new catalogue of the show below!
