Contemporary Art I Auction took place at Cornette de Saint Cyr, on Thursday, June 25th, with quite solid results – 57.5 percent of lots offered were sold. The auction gathered $1,058,299. The most expensive lots were Sayed Haider Raza’s Sans Titre (Cuisine), sold for $122,927 and Chu Teh-Chun’s Composition, sold for $111,752. The highest high estimate difference was achieved with the sale of Sayed Haider Raza’s Sans Titre (Cuisine), topping the high estimate for 120 percent.

Sayed Haider Raza – Famous Indian Master

Syed Haider Raza is an Indian artist, who has been living in France since 1950. He is well-known for his use Indian cosmology symbols. His paintings have evolved from being purely expressionist landscapes to abstract ones. They have been done mainly in oil or acrylic and have a very heavy usage of color. He became India’s priciest modern artist on June 10th, 2010, when a seminal work, Saurashtra sold for $3,486,965 at a Christie’s auction.

The Overview of Cornette de Saint Cyr – Contemporary Art I Auction

Out of 113 lots offered at Cornette de Saint Cyr – Contemporary Art I auction, sixty-five were sold, or 57.5 percent. Only twelve lots were sold over high estimate (10.6 percent of sold lots), while 30 lots were sold in range of estimated values (46.1 percent of sold lots). On the other hand, 23 lots, or 35.4 percent, were sold under low estimate. The highest hammer price was seen in the sale of Sayed Haider Raza’s Sans Titre (Cuisine) and Chu Teh-Chun’s Composition (sold for $122,927 and $111,752 respectively). Average hammer price of the auction has settled at $16,282, while median hammer was at $8,940.

Speaking of the most successful lots, we should mention Sayed Haider Raza’s Sans Titre (Cuisine), Olivier Debre’s Lofoten (Paysage Tache Jaune) and Remi Blanchard’s Sans Titre, that were sold for higher prices from their high estimates: Raza’s work had +120 percent, Debre’s work had +78.6, and Blanchard’s work had +42.9 percent difference. On the bottom side are Chu Teh-Chun’s Composition sold with -33.3 percent difference between hammer price and low estimate, followed by Michelangelo Pistoletto’s Fratalle (with -16.7 percent), Kriki’s Space Invaders (with -16.7 percent) and Andre Valensi’s Sans Titre (with -16.6 percent).
