Collective Exhibition at David Bloch Gallery in Marrakech
It was truly an amazing year for the Marrakech-based David Bloch Gallery. We saw a number of great exhibitions at the gallery; let us just mention the latest one – the exhibition of Carlos Mare and Vincent Abadie Hafez entitled Crossing paths – The Intersection of Memories that was on view until January 17, 2016. Also, we could mention the great show entitled Into the Wild, with works by French street artist Mist (it was on view in November), as well as amazing exhibition titled Sensitive Eye – a group show celebrating Op Art, and that was on view in September and October. But, the gallery has prepared for another exciting year, so art lovers will be thrilled to hear that David Bloch has organized a group show – collective exhibition featuring works by the resident artists of the gallery.
David Bloch Gallery Main Themes
Almost every gallery in the world has some specific themes it focuses on. Just like they prefer certain movements (and not all of them), or certain art styles and techniques. David Bloch Gallery constantly tracks the latest development in the world of contemporary art; therefore, in this amazing art space, we can see beautiful examples of conceptual art, post-graffiti works, Op Art works, and so on. But the Gallery is also focusing on specific themes that are usually a subject-matter in the works of artists that exhibit here. When it comes to David Bloch Gallery, among those themes are The Letter and the Calligraphy, The Abstraction and the Imaginary and The Optical and the Kinetic Art. We already had several opportunities to enjoy great works coming from these fields, or dealing with these questions; but for the Collective Exhibition that is about to open, the visitors will have a great opportunity to discover or rediscover the resident artists of the gallery whose works highlight the gallery’s main themes.
Resident Artists Presenting their Work
A number of works that will be exhibited during the collective exhibition are inspired/using The Letter and the Calligraphy. Various Moroccan and French artists have revisited the essence of the Letter. They look for reinterpreting the Letter’s gestural writing through a graphical composition, freeing therefore the Letter of its first linguistic meaning, creating universal sign, placing it in an abstract language and which is understandable by all. A body of work that will be exhibited is dealing with the abstraction and the imaginary. With a selection of artists mostly from a graffiti background, these works take us in their own imaginary journey. Each work expresses in its own way a certain emotion or reflection about life, human relationships. Finally, there will be something for those who like Optical and Kinetic art. The artists use the fallibility of the eye through abstract creations and various illusions, giving impressions of movements, bursts of light, vibrations or alternating movements, placing the spectator in an unstable position, immersed in the sweet sensation of vertigo. The variety of the content offered in this exhibition will therefore attempt to highlight the richness of its artists with a central and recurring theme: Life.
