September 2, 2019
A philosophy graduate interested in critical theory, politics and art. Alias of Jelena Martinović.

A young urban contemporary art fair, District 13 debuted last year in Paris by offering the public a curated selection of some of the most prominent international galleries and representatives of the world of Urban art, reflecting the various subcultures revolving around the movement. Building on the success of the first edition, the fair returns this September, gathering galleries, artists and art books editions to offer a global portrait of urban art across the globe.

The District 13 Art Fair 2019 will gather 9 French and 17 international galleries, offering connoisseurs and collectors alike a new moment in the global urban art market calendar. In addition to presenting the works of some of the most renown international street artists, the fair will also host a talks program and a range of workshops for children aged under 12. The fair takes place at Drouot, the oldest public auction institution in the world which has become the central place to contemporary art. District 13 seeks to strengthen the attractiveness of Paris on this art market by celebrating the creativity and energy of this burgeoning movement.

The Side Program

Seeking to create a sharing and immersive environment and forge stronger connections between the gallerists, artists and visitors, the fair will present its talks program which will take place every day of the fair. Among participants will be Mono Gonzales, Hush and D*Face who will speak and focus on topical issues.

On the occasion of the fair, the publishing label Albin Michel will premier its new spectacular book dedicated to D*Face, published six years after his last monograph. The artist said of the publication:

I don’t only talk about the long hours spent at the studio, nor the 12-hour days my team and I spend on our murals. There’s also the moments of the days, or nights, that I spend thinking, creating, undoing and criticizing what I paint. It is not just about work. It is my entire life.

The fair didn’t forget the youngest ones, who will enjoy workshops with the Pure Evil Gallery from the UK. The workshops will allow children a smooth step into street art and allow their parents to enjoy the rest of the fair. Among highlights of the program will be a public auction bringing together galleries and an auction house as the audacious cohabitation of different means to support and promote urban art artists. Presented by the Drouot Estimations, of the Drouot Group and lead by auctioneer Marion Martino, the event will offer around 50 works of art.
