AK Meets AK

Artist Angelika Krinzinger was always inspired by the analytical side of the old master imagery. Following their style that always focused on one detail of the human body such as a hand or a leg, the artist created a series of portraits that put the subject’s eyes into the forefront. Her latest body of work that will be on display at AK exhibition explores pieces by Swiss-Austrian painter Angelica Kauffmann known for adding the autobiographical element to her portraits. The artist isolates the eyes of the portrayed subjects that act as a unique symbol of identification. And just like there are no two fingerprints that are alike, the eyes of the subjects are unique and just as strong indicator of person’s individuality. Angelika Krinzinger applies the same technique to Angelica Kauffmann’s landscape paintings and creates a series of photographs that focus on one single part of the vast plains.

Observe Tokyo Trough the Eyes of Erik Schmidt

Cut/Uncut exhibition by Erik Schmidt will present a video work created by the artist during his stay in Tokyo in 2015. In the first part of the film, Erik Schmidt performs a series of everyday tasks and rituals such as eating in fast food restaurants and going to an amusement arcade while being dressed in a loose-fitting business suit. And despite the familiarity of these rituals that we all carry out every day, we can sense the feeling of strangeness and alienation that people often experience when in contact with the foreign culture. But as the film unrolls the artist transforms several times and strips of his clothes (in an act similar to shedding old skin) in order to completely immerse himself into the environment around him. The exhibition will also present a series of paintings inspired by the life in the busy cityscapes. Once again, business suits dominate the imagery as the artist portrays daily patterns of life in the big city such as Tokyo. Cut/Uncut exhibition will also include a series of drawings created on Japanese newspapers.

Thought-provoking Exhibitions at Galerie Krinzinger in Vienna

Another video work entitled Cosmic Cathedral is created by the art duo Markus Hanakam & Roswitha Schuller. The surreal imagery of their latest work is inspired by the visual language of alchemy and the celebrated book by Italian writer Flucanelli Le Mystère des cathédrales. This manuscript describes symbology found on the Gothic cathedrals throughout Europe and unveils the secrets of this ancient skill. All three exhibitions will take place at the same time but in different parts of Krinzinger gallery in Vienna. Artworks by Erik Schmidt will occupy the central part of the gallery, photographic series by Angelika Krinzinger will be on view at the showroom and Cosmic Cathedral exhibition by Hanakam & Schuller will be located on the gallery’s ground floor. The exhibitions will be on display from February 19th till March 26th, 2016 at Galerie Krinzinger in Vienna.
