Young, but with a very clear idea about what she wants to paint, Alyssa Klauer belongs to an upcoming generation of American artists. Fascinated with fashion, the artist portrays models that are wearing clothes of stark colors and are based in amorphous environments. Having done some modeling herself, all of her work is a kind of autobiographic. The pieces possess an intense introspective, but the artist manages to keep them not too specific, almost universal. The representation is aggressively interrupted by the colors and gestures, thus creating something unique and recognizable. She works in mixed media.

Experimentation, aggression, colors and expression

She is studying at the Maryland Institute College of Art, and is expected to earn her Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2017. Anyone of Klauer’s artworks can be described as a mix of intuitive gesture and a figure that is highly rendered. Extreme realism of her paintings sometimes seems to drift into abstraction. Every single painted model has its own aesthetical definition, which is expressed through the process of juxtaposing of the stark representation with the experimentally painted bursts of color. The pieces are started by recreating the likeness of her subjects in a manner that is very photo realistic. Then the artist gives in to aggression and impulse, where the special attention is being paid to colors and expressions.

Young, acclaimed and awarded artist

Klauer is only 19 years old, but she has been actively exhibiting since 2013. So far, all of them were group exhibitions, but it’s only a matter of time before she has an opportunity to exhibit as a solo artist. She started getting awards in high school. In 2013, the artist won the 2nd prize in the Stark County High School Art Exhibition. Since then, she earned Maryland Institute College of Art Painting Department Recognition Award and the Achievement Award. From June 2015, she interns at the Randall Scott Projects, a fine art gallery based in Baltimore, Maryland.

Alyssa Klauer is young and talented artist, and that is not a cliche. Being able to find both her inspiration and technique at such a young age, that is simply wonderful. The viewers can only hope she doesn’t get distracted and continue to produce quality artworks. There is some deep and almost unexplainable beauty in her pieces that send a clear message that maybe we’re not perfect, but we’re all beautiful, in our own specific way.

She is represented by 19 Karen Contemporary Artspace in Gold Coast, Australia.
