Ian Ingram is an American painter from Atlanta, Georgia. He was born in 1974 and studied at the Paideia School in Atlanta.

Ingram is known for his hyper-realistic and intensely emotional self-portraits, which speak about autobiographical and important events, such as his wedding, or the birth of his child. The direct gaze of his self-portraits sometimes appears almost uncomfortably intimate, as his paintings are the means to express his deepest feelings and explore his subconscious world. In order to achieve this, he uses a range of techniques.

The dreamlike canvases display careful cross-contours, grids and lines to passages of blended charcoal, which serve to express various subtle distinctions on Ingram’s face. The artist uses both conventional materials – charcoal, pastel, ink and watercolor, and unconventional ones, such as beeswax, string, metallic thread, beads, silver leafs and even butterfly wings.

His work is a part of many private collections. It is also featured in the permanent collection of the De Young Museum in San Francisco, California and the Arnot Art Museum in Elmira in New York.

Ian Ingram is represented by 101/Exhibit gallery in Los Angeles, California.

He works and resides in Austin, Texas.
