Marina Zumi believes in natural wisdom, symmetry, quantum theory and the power of color. Her favorite places to work are the streets and large walls that she turns into colorful murals. She paints fairy tale animals, brightly colored and gentle, flowers, stars, and cosmos. The artists stress the importance of symmetry that mimics the balance one should achieve through meditation and self-exploration. Her murals almost always show the scenes after the nightfall, where the real magic can happen, in the absence of lights comes forward the freedom. The results are serene murals and illuminated landscapes that keep the clear and smooth form and still show the surreal world of ideas.

From Fashion to Street Art

Marina Zumi studied fashion design at UBA Argentina in Buenos Aires, and after graduation, she worked in fashion and she was a member of a group of female artists called Expression Sessions. After working with other street artists she started going solo and brought much-needed feminity into the contemporary street art scene. She painted walls in London and Berlin, participated in various festivals in Europe and taught a few classes at the workshop in Museum of Modern Art Vienna. When she worked on her beehive building in a small town in Germany called Halle she was inspired by the philosophy of color, and how it symbolizes openness to the cosmos. The town was getting more residents like beehives were getting more bees, and Zumi wanted her mural to symbolize good organization and harmony.

Striving for Balance

Almost everything she does is connected with the spirit and mind and deeper feelings and reflections. She is deeply moved and lives by guidances of Buddhist philosophy, and her art is shaped and molded by her principles if universal balance. For her, nature symbolizes life and life mean living in both physical and spiritual world. In the immaterial world, her motives, like aurora borealis or deer, stand for natural laws and wisdom. When she works with spray cans and colors she tends to work in a gentle and delicate form that would break out the harshness of concrete everyday city life. Besides easter teachings and fashion, she is inspired by other artist and music, and quite often she dances while working in her studio.

Weaving and Embrodiary

Besides city murals that bring peace and tranquility to the noisy urban jungle, she works in her studio under the more defined idea. Zumi trusts that balance is in right proportions and her Flux of Energy series shows hot the balance can be achieved in right symmetry. She sews and makes embroidery art. Psychology, myth, and symbols on the one side, on the other, is science and this artist makes part of her work based on her amateur knowledge of the quantum theory. Her collection called Concrete Art features black or white with gold, silver and copper lines. She mixes tweeds with acrylic polish and makes geometrical and opaque pieces that tell the story of the force living in the universe and among us. Dark or colorful, Zumi’s art is either way, an amazingly inspirational work that enriches the everyday life.

The artist is represented by Street Art Anarchy.
