P7 is a Bangkok based artist and designer whose work showcases his self-taught style merging contemporary fine art with a street sensibility. P7  works all over Thailand and has exhibited internationally.

P7 likes to pick places that not normally fit for contemporary art. He feels that the older the wall he paints, the better is his creation. P7 has a dark sense of humor with thematic influences ranging from cartoons to classic novels. His work is often playful and disturbing at the same time. In some works P7 is replicating reality at an intimidating level but in most he is playing with the childlike nature of cartoon like shapes, colors, and figures.

Before P7  liked to make realistic paintings he painted animals, people and everything else, until one day he wanted less. When he started to master realistic painting, he wanted to minimize the artwork by simplifying forms when he creates pieces on the street. The work is simplified by minimizing the color palette and details. He divides different animal structures and parts, combining them together to create his own character. It’s a character with no reasoning or consistent structure. He doesn’t have any colors in the initial sketch, he likes to figure out color combinations at the site. So he brings with himself a lot of cans, almost 100, around  30 colors total. Each character that he makes builds on the one before and the one before that. “My character is like a garbage from design.” In terms of form and theory he likes to combine artwork that is cute and cheerful at the beginning but then it lurks darkness and untrustworthiness in the details.

At the surface his artwork looks like  street art but it  also takes a form of a graffiti sign. It’s a design cluster with a lot of minor details inside of it. It’s not intended to tell story or interact with its surroundings.

Through gaining a reputation of beautifying some of the less attractive walls in Thailand, he has gained the right to illustrate some of the most sought after. P7 has become almost an in-house artist at the best place in the country to see contemporary art, the Bangkok Art and Cultural Center. P7 has participated in several of the collaborative murals in the building and he designed the playful Tiger-head sculptures out front.

P7 is the creator of the FOR2 wall painting show taking place every year on the walls of the BACC, gathering major street artists from Thailand in one great wall painting. He has had solo shows in major and alternative Bangkok venues and has also exhibited his works in USA and Singapore.

P7 lives and works in Bangkok.
